ProWein, the Düsseldorf-based wine trade fair founded in 1994, is recalibrating its role as the global wine industry confronts structural shifts in viticulture, consumer behavior, and market dynamics. Frank Schindler, who assumed the director role at ProWein Düsseldorf last autumn, is steering the fair toward what he describes as a more intentional mission in what he terms "a disruptive environment."
Strategic Pivot "In a disruptive environment, a wine trade fair must carefully consider and define its function and significance," Schindler explained. The fair's new organizing principle—"Focus. Proximity. Industry."—reflects an effort to address what Schindler characterizes as the industry's need for positive signals amid uncertainty. ProWein 2027 will take place March 7–9, 2027, in Düsseldorf.
Why It Matters
With an aging wine market facing demographic and regulatory headwinds, major trade fairs are under pressure to demonstrate concrete value to exhibitors and buyers. ProWein's strategic reset signals that even established B2B platforms must actively rethink their purpose and audience engagement to remain relevant.
