Wine-based RTD brand Big Sipz has added Blast Off Blue to its national convenience-store lineup, marking the brand's latest SKU expansion under parent company Patco Brands. The new blue raspberry flavor enters retail sets across 48 states, targeting the high-velocity c-store channel where single-serve, high-ABV wine cocktails have carved meaningful shelf space over the past two years.
The Product and Positioning
Blast Off Blue checks in at 16% ABV, consistent with the Big Sipz portfolio's positioning as a high-gravity wine-based cocktail in single-serve format. The flavor profile — sweet-tart blue raspberry with what the brand describes as a clean finish — slots into the fruit-forward, nostalgic-flavor segment that has driven outsized volume growth in the convenience channel. For wholesalers and distributor reps planning resets, the SKU is designed to trade on impulse purchase dynamics: bold packaging, familiar flavor cue, and an entry price point aligned with competing single-serve alcopop and wine cocktail formats.
The 48-state footprint confirms that Big Sipz has secured distribution agreements across a near-universal domestic network. Confirmed off-premise markets include Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas — a mix of Sun Belt convenience powerhouse states where wine-based RTD depletions have tracked above national averages. Distributors operating in those markets will be contending with planogram pressure from the new SKU as the brand seeks end-cap placement and cooler-door real estate in high-traffic c-store accounts.
Launch Strategy and Channel Implications
To drive depletion velocity at launch, Patco Brands executed a near-space stunt in partnership with Filmed in Space, sending a unit of Blast Off Blue into the stratosphere. The activation — built around digital content and social amplification by influencer duo Cole Steiner and Cenzo Hayes of Dirtbag Clothing — is designed to generate earned media and on-shelf awareness simultaneously. For distributor sales reps, that kind of consumer-facing momentum can be a useful tool when pitching incremental facings or secondary display placement to convenience chain buyers.
"Sending the product to the edge of space wasn't just about making noise around a new flavor," said Joey Parris, CMO at Patco Brands. "This was about creating a moment people would want to engage with and remember."
The wine-based RTD segment sits at an interesting regulatory and commercial intersection: products are typically TTB-compliant as wine products under federal classification, which in many states allows broader retail distribution than malt-based or spirits-based alternatives — a route-to-market advantage that Big Sipz appears to be leveraging with its aggressive state count. Brands in this tier, including competitors in the high-ABV single-serve wine cocktail space, have increasingly targeted c-store as the primary off-premise channel given the format's affinity for impulse-driven, single-occasion purchasing.
For the three-tier system, Blast Off Blue's rollout represents an incremental line extension rather than a new brand onboarding — meaning existing Big Sipz wholesaler partners absorb the SKU into current book-of-business workflows. That limits friction in the supply chain but also puts the brand in competition with its own existing SKUs for facings. How distributors allocate shelf attention across the Big Sipz portfolio will be a key variable in whether Blast Off Blue achieves meaningful depletion lift at the store level.
